Become a Part of the Team: Volunteering with AST
Our club is powered by the passion and dedication of our amazing volunteers. From the poolside at competitions to behind the scenes, our parent volunteers are the heartbeat of AST, making it possible for our swimmers to compete and succeed.
Volunteering is a hugely rewarding way to support your child, get closer to the action, and be a vital part of our swimming family. Whether you have a little time or a lot, there's a role for you!
Two Great Ways to Get Involved
🦸 Poolside Hero: Become a Team Manager
What is it? You are the vital link between the coaches and the swimmers during a competition, ensuring the team is organised, safe, and ready to race.
What you'll do:
- ✅ Look after a group of swimmers on poolside.
- ✅ Make sure they get to their races on time.
- ✅ Help with hats, goggles, and last-minute encouragement!
- ✅ Be the team's chief supporter and organiser.
Why you'll love it:
- ⭐ You get a poolside view of all the action!
- ⭐ Free entry to meets (no spectator fees).
- ⭐ Be at the heart of the team's success and spirit.
How to get started: The journey begins with two simple online courses and a DBS check organised by the club. We'll guide you through the whole process. You can even try out the role at a local gala to see if you like it!
⏱️ Get the Best Seat in the House: Become an Official
What is it? From Timekeeper to Judge, officials ensure that competitions are fair and that every swimmer's time is accurately recorded, allowing their results to be officially recognised.
What you'll do:
- ✅ Start as a Timekeeper, timing races right from the end of the lane.
- ✅ Progress to a Judge, observing strokes and turns to ensure fairness.
- ✅ Be part of the dedicated team that makes the whole event possible.
Why you'll love it:
- ⭐ You get the absolute best view of every single race!
- ⭐ Often includes free entry, drinks, and even lunch at meets.
- ⭐ You'll gain a fascinating insight into the technical side of swimming.
How to get started: The first step is a simple online Timekeeper course. It's a great way to begin, and from there, a full pathway with mentoring is available if you'd like to progress to become a fully qualified Judge.
